Scents have the ability to transport us to a completely different time and place, to evoke memories or simply help us daydream. In San Diego, where 1502 Candle Co. is based, the winters are known for being mild and temperate. But we love escaping to higher elevations and wintry wonder-scapes whenever we can. Until our next getaway, we use a Blue Spruce & Ember candle – one of our customers’ favorites – to achieve a cozy, relaxed content state of mind.
Our Initial Inspiration
Blue Spruce & Ember was inspired by camping trips to the Eastern Sierras – one of our favorite weekend destinations from Southern California. This special mountain range offers a chance to get away from it all and appreciate a slower pace. We wanted to bring home those feelings of relaxation and centeredness we get from being in the forest. In fact, did you know it's scientifically proven that nature is a de-stresser?
What makes this fragrance so special though, is that it brings to mind nature and also a crackling campfire. Campfires bring us together, invite us to pause and relish the present. A campfire, close friends and the spacious outdoors: we can think of few places we’d rather be.
Balancing Pine with Spice and Fire
In order to create a nuanced, balanced fragrance containing the perfect mix of top, middle, and base notes, we started with bright, resinous evergreen in the form of spruce and fir balsam. This achieved the energizing top note we all associate with pine. You might be especially nostalgic about this scent now that the holidays are over (we know we are!)

Next, we layered in middle notes of cinnamon and amber. These mellow scents naturally comfort and soothe. Last came ash, smoke and patchouli – subtler but equally important components.
Altogether, we think the end product is capable of transporting anyone with a little imagination to a more peaceful space.
