As advocates for conscious living and mindful consumption, we believe that every choice we make – including the clothes we wear – has the power to shape a better world. If you're new to the world of sustainable fashion, you might be taken aback by the price tags. However, it's essential to recognize that these brands aren't designed for the same rapid consumption cycle as fast fashion. Instead, they emphasize eco-friendly processes, ethical production standards, timeless design, and high-quality essentials that endure beyond fleeting trends. Their longevity and craftsmanship mean that you can enjoy these pieces for years, contrasting starkly with the disposable nature of fast fashion items that quickly lose their allure season after season.

The Importance of Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion is not just about looking good; it's about feeling good too. Here's why it matters:

Environmental Impact: The fashion industry is notorious for its environmental footprint, from water pollution to textile waste. By choosing sustainable fashion, we reduce our impact on the planet and support brands that prioritize eco-friendly materials and production processes.

Ethical Production: Behind every garment is a story – and it's essential that it's a positive one. Sustainable fashion brands prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and transparency throughout the supply chain, ensuring that every piece is made with integrity and respect for people and the planet.

Longevity and Quality: At 1502 Candle Co, we appreciate the value of craftsmanship and quality, and the same goes for sustainable fashion. By investing in timeless pieces made from sustainable materials, we not only reduce the need for frequent replacements but also support a more sustainable approach to consumption.

3 Sustainable Fashion Brands We Love

Sezane

Sezane, a certified B Corp based in Paris, is driven by a commitment to crafting timeless pieces that honor both the planet and its inhabitants. Reflecting this ethos, 3/4 of the materials used in their current collections are eco-friendly and have certifications from five of the industry's most reputable standards: GOTS, Oeko-Tex, FSC, Ecovero, RWS, and RMS.

Using responsible production models that avoids intermediaries, flash sales, and overproduction, 100% of their ateliers undergo independent audits to uphold their code of ethics and standards. They also donate 100% of proceeds from solidarity creations and 10% of daily sales to organizations promoting equitable access to education, culture, and opportunities, and have already raised 5 million Euros.

"Inspired by Paris and its inhabitants, each of our collections is a dialogue with the city itself and a tribute to freedom."

1502’s founder Caroline purchased her wedding dress from Sezane and most recently the Basile Cardigan, a timeless and beautifully crafted sweater made from Alpaca and wool.

Sezane's dedication to sustainability and enduring design deeply resonates with us at 1502 Candle Co. From their ethically sourced materials to their efforts in waste reduction, Sezane embodies the values that we hold dear.

Everlane

A longtime fan of Everlane, Caroline has many stable items from Everlane from cotton canvas pants to organic cotton sweaters.

“Exceptional quality. Ethical factories. Radical Transparency”

Designed to last, Everlane avoids trends and uses the best materials for their clothing. They are known for being “Radically Transparent” by showing the true costs behind all of their product including materials, labor and transportation then offer
them to you, without a retail markup. Everlane partners with ethical factories around the world and uses a strict auditing system to evaluate factors like fair wages, reasonable hours, and environment to ensure ethical practices.

Seavees

Seavees, a fellow 1% for the Planet member, was forced to shut down in the 1970’s and rediscovered and relaunched in 2008. Their shoes are consciously crafted in small batches to control quality and consistency in factories with strict ethical standards.  As a brand dedicated to crafting casual footwear with a focus on sustainability, Seavees offers a range of shoes that are as comfortable as they are conscious. Caroline recently had to replace her work shoes (one of the many victims of The Flood) and purchased their Bodega Clog. Made from natural and recycled rubber she tells everyone she knows how much she loves them!

Seavees proves that sustainability and style go hand in hand. As a brand dedicated to crafting casual footwear with a focus on sustainability, Seavees offers a range of shoes that are as comfortable as they are conscious.

Embracing Sustainable Fashion

We believe that sustainable living extends beyond candles and reusable bags – it's a lifestyle. By supporting sustainable fashion brands like Sezane, Everlane, and Seavees, we not only align ourselves with values that matter but also contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come. So, let's embrace the importance of sustainable fashion and continue to make choices that light up the world – one candle and one outfit at a time.
